Consolidation keeps winning in Iberian wind and solar

Consolidation keeps winning in Iberian wind and solar.

Yesterday’s deals confirm it: capital is rotating hard into de-risked, operating assets, and into the grid infrastructure that lets more of them connect.

What we’re tracking today:

Galp completed its purchase of ACCIONA Energía’s 361 MW Spanish wind portfolio — 15 operating farms across six provinces — for an equity value of €432 million, unlocking a €255 million capital gain for the seller. Operating assets in mature Iberian wind keep changing hands at scale.

Portugal’s government unveiled a €400 million, 31-measure package to shore up the national grid after last year’s blackout, headlined by a 750 MVA battery storage auction due before January 2026, PRR-funded up to €100 million. That’s fresh capacity for storage developers queuing behind grid access.

Prosolia Energy commissioned a 34.4 MWp solar-plus-storage plant in Portugal, pairing a 15 MW/60 MWh battery directly with a 150 kV grid connection — another sign hybrid solar-plus-storage is now the default build, not the exception.

At Persimmon Investments, that’s the map we invest against: operating assets that trade, grids that make room for storage, and hybrids that get built because the economics demand it.
